Characteristics and peculiarities

- The Phantom VI was launched in 1968 with a 6230cc V8 engine and a four-speed automatic gear box. In 1978 the model was provided with a 6750 cc V8 engine and a three-speed automatic gear box.
- The Phantom VI had an independent chassis on which the factory or a coachbuilder made a body.
- The Phantom VI is in model year 1992 succeeded by the Rolls-Royce Silver Spur II Touring Limousine.
- The model is not based upon the floor pan of the Silver Spirit. The Phantom VI made up a separate car line besides the other models.
- For the coach the customer could commission a coachbuilder for a bespoke body.
- Despite the high weight the model was never provided with turbo technics.

Production and chassis numbers

Identification of the model in the chassis number
The chassis number of a Phantom VI has from model year 1980:
- the letter P on the fourth position
- the letter M on the fifth position
- the combination 00 on the sixth and seventh position. From 1987 (when all other models converted to fuel injection) it changed into 01.

Further details about the production and the chassis numbers
- From 1968 until 1978 the Phantom VI had a chassis number that corresponded with the system of the Silver Shadow. From the moment that in 1978 the 6750 cc engine was introduced in the model, the car got a system of its own for the chassis numbers. In 1980 the model got a chassis number of 17 positions, just like the Silver Spirit.
- The chassis numbers of the Phantom VI were mixed with the numbers of other models until 1987. From 1987 the Phantom VI had a number series of its own that started with the number after the last number of the Camargue (10415 up to and including 10426).
- During model year 1981 of the Silver Spirit models, the Phantom VI models got a number from model year 1980. There is nu Phantom VI number from model year 1981.
